Pod's shell is one of the largest single forms produced using pressed PET felt technology. A two-year development process refined the pressing technique to create the complex wraparound shape in a single operation. Steam-bent ash wood forms the structural frame, a traditional woodworking method that shapes solid timber through heat and moisture. Together, these choices replace the fixed combination of timber, glue, foam, and textile found in conventional upholstery, making Pod far easier to disassemble and recycle.

Benjamin Hubert founded design studio LAYER and has collaborated with Samsung, Nike, Braun, BMW, Herman Miller, and Fritz Hansen. His work focuses on material innovation and production process. Pod emerged from examining traditional wingback chairs and solving their drawbacks: heavy construction, complex upholstery, high transport costs, and recycling challenges. The collaboration started with material and process exploration before moving to final form.
